Different people to different worlds
The general conception of the life after death was added with the mythology of prehistoric epoch and the Ancient World about the personal destiny of different categories of dead people.
First of all the other world depended on the way of death. Killed, drowned, naturally dead, those who died in childhood were getting to different other worlds or different other world regions. And very often these categories of the population had the opposite destinies.
Germans and Aztecs believed that the warriors that died in battles were getting to the war heaven or Valhalla. In countries of Africa people considered people who died during the war to be harmful creatures and their other world life was awful. The attitude of people was also different to women who died during giving birth to the chid as well as to children.
And when the social categories formed finally, the division between people who get to the other world changed a lot reflecting the social structure of the mythology. For example, the destiny of aristocracy and priests was better and happier than the destiny of the ordinary person.
In fact the financial and social status of the person was transmitted into the other world. Sometimes the wealth of the dead person depended on the richness of burial. And the king was always the king and he left the king in the other world. And not only slaves followed the king in his death but also the whole court.
